Lords of DarkHall

A new Roguelike set in the Ruins of DarkHall Manor!

Welcome to the Lords of DarkHall website. Here you will find the latest version of my work-in-progress, Lords of DarkHall, a free 'Diabloesque' roguelike currently in development. Lords of DarkHall doesn't reinvent the roguelike, it simply adds some flavor and and slightly different spin to a well established and venerable genre. Take a look, and if you like what you see (or even if you don't) then leave me a little feedback. While the current version is far from complete, it is representative of the direction I am going.

Generally speaking, the game is somewhere between a coffee-break roguelike (a simple, yet challenging rogue meant to be completed in around 15-30 mins) and one of the more complicated rogues. The focus is on ease of play, with a stated development principle of 1 keystroke per skill - no 5 button presses to select, cast, target, and unleash a spell! However, I am also striving for deep play within that context, with random and static levels, randomly generated loot, and enough game play to require you to save and come back later to continue your adventure!

Thank you for your time; I appreciate you stopping by!

If you are new to the roguelike type of game, check out some of the following links. These game are extremely deep and engrossing, and, almost always FREE.

http://www.Nethack.org           This is the game which started my obsession with rogues!! In my humble
opinion, the best RL out there!

http://www.thangorodrim.net/
Angband is another classic roguelike, this one more focused on combat.
This site contains links to the myraid variants; probably the most 'modded'
                                                       RL out there.

http://crawl-ref.sourceforge.net/    The most recent of the 'classic' RLs - like Angband, devoted to combat. This
version is actually the most popular 'mod' of the defunct original project.

http://www.adom.de/                     Another of the big classic RLs. I must admit to not playing a whole lot of this
one, but it is extremely popular, and represents a more static world, with
                                                       multiple quests.

These following links represent some of the ongoing efforts at RL development, and by no means paint a
complete picture of what's out there. First, I would suggest checking out:

This is a great site, and can direct you to almost any rogue out there! A great place to start.

An excellent site for the latest in Roguelike news, with reviews, development info, and forums to discuss anything rogue-related:

And finally, a few of my favorite rogues currently in development!!!

http://www.slashie.net/                                  Home of the excellent graphical Castlevania roguelike, among others.

http://www.incursion-roguelike.net/               Maybe the most complex RL in existence. Contains a VERY thorough
implementation of the D&D 3.5 ruleset.
